Getting ready is not about passing one technical check. It is about understanding how work happens today, what you want to improve, and what your team needs to move forward responsibly.
1. Workflow
Map the documentation process as it operates today. Note where clinicians change devices, move between systems, complete work after hours, or rely on manual steps.
2. People
Identify an executive sponsor, an operational owner, technical participants, and clinicians who can represent different specialties and working styles.
3. Technology
Document the clinical systems, devices, identity requirements, network constraints, and integration questions that need to be validated.
4. Governance
Clarify who will review privacy, security, data handling, acceptable use, note quality, and escalation paths. Involve these stakeholders early enough to shape the plan.
5. Measurement
Choose a small set of meaningful measures before a pilot begins. Examples can include time spent documenting, clinician satisfaction, adoption, note completion patterns, and qualitative feedback.
A useful outcome
You do not need to answer everything at once. Focus on the unknowns that matter, decide who will own them, and choose a responsible next step.
